IDSN599 - Design Strategy
Spring 2025
This course equips students with frameworks and tools to align design decisions with business goals, user needs, and systemic impact. It emphasizes strategic thinking, systems analysis, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Students learn to define problem spaces, map stakeholder ecosystems, and craft design interventions that drive organizational value and transformation. Suitable for advanced design students or professionals aiming to lead at the intersection of design, business, and innovation.
IDSN515 - Professional Practices Residential (PPR)
An intensive, 5-day design strategy studio in collaboration with industry partners. Students tackle complex, real-world challenges through applied research, systems analysis, and strategic design. The course includes mentorship from experts, faculty-led seminars, and presentations to external stakeholders.

Students explored how generative AI may reshape labor, expertise, and organizational structures across sectors. The prompt challenged teams to propose speculative but plausible service, policy, or platform concepts addressing shifting roles, skillsets, and power dynamics in future work environments.

In partnership with AHA, students investigated how AI could support cardiovascular health and aging-in-place for older adults. Teams conducted research with patients, clinicians, and caregivers to envision AI-powered interventions balancing care, autonomy, and ethics.

Students worked with the LA Coliseum to develop long-term design strategies for revitalizing the LA Coliseum. The challenge: propose site activations and narratives that connect past, present, and future civic life beyond the 2028 Games.
